Pupil Premium information

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

When the Pupil Premium is allocated, it is for schools to decide how it (per FSM pupil) is spent, and what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.

The funding allocated to us during the last 4 years is as follows:

2012/2013 - £4800

2013/2014 - £ 6,000

2014/2015 - £11,700

2015/2016 – £11,880

2016/2017-£11,880

2017/2018- £10,200

2018/2019-£11,850

2019/2020-£10,000 (approx) (confirmed amount available in the Spring)

The Senior Leadership Team closely analyse performance data in order to identify gaps in attainment and to determine the focus areas for additional support to pupils, including those entitled to benefit from the Pupil Premium. A dedicated member of staff (Mrs Keeping) works with class teachers and SLT to co-ordinate and ensure delivery of this support.

For most of our pupils currently on Pupil Premium, there is not a significant gap in academic attainment.  We are therefore concentrating on ensuring these children reach their full potential across the curriculum and that they develop strong personal and social skills.  We provide funding for extended school provision and curriculum enhancement including extra creative and practical experiences, educational visits (for example to our local bookshop to supplement whole school focus on reading), workshops, social groups, support with homework, supporting parents with cost of educational trips and extra-curricular activities (e.g. music lessons).

Where there has been a gap in attainment for those children eligible for Pupil Premium, funding is allocated to provide targeted 1:1 and group support.  See below*

Support is planned to focus on a particular targets which are frequently updated and reviewed by SLT, class teachers and Pupil Premium Coordinator.  This year we plan to develop the partnership with parents and the children to create the conditions under which improved teaching and learning approaches can work best.

  • ACE programme (support group for parents, positively developing partnership with parents) 
  • Parental engagement (Pupil Premium Co. available on Monday weekly in addition to a parent meeting twice a year)
  • Garden of reflection project (offering extended opportunities for Art)
  • Nurture groups (e.g. time to talk/play and talk, chomp and chat)
